Covid 19 Response

In regards to the Covid-19 situation, we have decided to start Virtual classes via Zoom from Monday 23 March for adults classes.

We will follow closely the NZ government guidelines in the coming weeks.

The safety of our students is our priority. With respect to COVID-19, like so many organisations at the moment, we've had to make some changes to our plans for the end of Term 1 and possibly for the coming months. We have worked together on our e-learning plan and I would like to introduce you to our strategies.
Our e-learning plan is based on two tools:

  • one synchronous tool, ZOOM, for web meetings allowing you to see, listen and engage in exchanges with your teacher.
  • one asynchronous tool, PADLET, a social media that you can use
  • anywhere, anytime to submit homework and assignments (formal
teaching) or take the opportunity to engage in all the forums of the community of all our students here in Alliance Française (informal teaching).

Therefore, this online environment requires a real effort in self-learning:

it requires a lot of self-discipline, as well as time and hard work. Are 1or 2 hours of face to face course different from one intensive ZOOM session, combined with steady work on Padlet in your learning environment? To us, it is equivalent. In some cases, language appropriation and learning process are even more successful with e-learning!
I hope all of you will have a great experience with us, and that the situation will get better.

Your teachers will send you the link to Zoom via Padlet and/or email and will be liaising with you and answering your questions.

Virtual classes will be set up in order to maintain your personal connection to your teacher. We recommend downloading the free Zoom software here for the best experience.

Benefits of Virtual Classes

  1. Privacy: If you don’t like being on camera, you can shut off the video setting at any time. You can also choose a virtual background on Zoom.
  2. Constant support: You can communicate with your teacher through Padlet for homework and extra activities.
  3. Convenience: Online classes can happen right from home!
