Synopsis : This is the story of two divers. It begins in the late fifties when even as boys, Jacques Mayol and Enzo Molinari, would vie to set a deep-sea diving records. Twenty years later, they are both front runners for the championship. The portrait of two men bound to the sea and the love between Jacques and his earth woman, Johanna. The Big Blue, a tale of friendship and romance.
Released in 1988, features Jean Reno in one of his early standout roles, years before international acclaim in films like Léon: The Professional and Ronin. The cast also includes Rosanna Arquette (Pulp Fiction, Desperately Seeking Susan) and Paul Shenar (Scarface), adding depth to this visually hypnotic film. Premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, The Big Blue became a cult classic in France and won the César Award for Best Music and Best Sound, cementing its place as a landmark in French cinema.
